About Us

FTX Events was launched in January 2005 by Marcy Schacter and Rob Neilson both of whom are extremely active in the BC film and television industry themselves. In October 2006 the annual trade show and conference, FTXwest Film & Television Expo, was kicked off at the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Center and was a great success.

The focus of the FTXwest show was to introduce Canadians to the latest technologies in film, television and new media. Through a series of educational seminars, panels, intensive filmmaking workshops and a full day of pitching at the Great Canadian Pitchfest, where close to 300 screenwriters, producers and filmmakers attended the conference. Approximately 2,000 industry members visited the trade show itself. FTXwest Expo showcased everything from the latest HD cameras, to sound, lighting and post production equipment in addition to educational, government and support associations dedicated to industry growth and development.

In 2009 the company added some special workshops presented by best selling author Dara Marks (noted Hollywood script doctor), including a unique Writers Cruise at Sea in August 2009. “Engaging the Feminine Heroic” took 15 women writers on a cruise to Alaska while exploring the world of mythology and its relationship to story. There will many more of these types of events coming in the near future.

FTX Events is committed to keep abreast of current trends in the industry and to fulfill the professional development needs of the artistic community both locally and internationally. One of the newest and most exciting additions to the lineup in 2010 is our completely re-vamped pitching event, “Pitchmarket 2010”, which launches in Vancouver March 6th -7th 2010.
